Internet connections
As a truck driver with my laptop perched on the steering wheel (while i'm not driving of course) I connect to the internet tethered to my cell phone. My cell phone signal strength varies depending on where I'm at. Some times I connect to a truck stop wifi if my cell signal is insufficient.

About 15 years ago I had a company called dish supply. I installed dircetv, dish network and starband.
All three services provided internet VSAT services.

Prior to dish supply, I helped build Star TV's uplink facility in Hong Kong and Dircectv's uplink facility in Castle Rock, CO.

Why I don't use a VSAT on my truck is because I'm always moving. I could set a VSAT up (pointing it in the right dircetion) on a tripod but my cell works good enough so really no point. I'm not sitting around that much out in the middle of no where...

Any how why I'm posting this is because I am looking to set up several VSAT systems in the Philippines. I'm looking at a couple companies but nothing solid yet. Can anybody suggest one?

RE: Internet connections
Owen / FigOsDev,

We have had 44 visits from people from the Philippines since 2014 that I know of, but I don't know how many registered members we have/had from there.

You may have noticed that our registered member count went from >1800 to 90 here recently, and that was due to an addendum I added to the Terms & Conditions requiring all new members to post with 30 days of registering or their account will be removed. Most registered members had never posted, so I removed them. Also, there were tons of people that signed up to the forum but never registered. Most of them gave bad email addresses so they couldn't finalize registration.

There will be a few more that will be removed soon as well, so do not worry if the member count goes even lower.

RE: Internet connections
Here's my first response from philsat.com

Hi Sir Owen,

Thank you for your inquiry. May I ask some information.

What is your bandwidth requirement?

What applications are you going to use?

How many PC you will connect to the internet?

Where do you intend to install the Unit? Installation fee is depending on installation location

and i replied

the highest bandwidth requirements need to support help desk screen sharing. we will be using anydesk. i have to do some testing to measure bandwith usage using various settings before i can give you a figure.

however, latency is a concern. i am interested in knowing if you have had any sucess using vsat comms with screen sharing and if it is not practical then bandwidth requiremrnts will be needed to support text formats such as live chat and forum access.

the project i am working on is teaching students how to program in a language called freebasic (freebasic.net). i will forward your questions to the freebasic community and hopefuly be able to give you some more informtion soon.

i hope to be able to teach students in manilla as well as rural areas in northern luzon and iloilo to start.

i think to start, we will not have too many pc's simultaniously conected at any given stie. perhaps 3 per site at the most.

funds for this project are not available yet but it is helpful to know expected costs in advance in an effort to encourage participation not just for raising funds but for community support and commitment. ie. freebasic.net's live chat already has impressive response times with inteligent and courteos support. the forum is un paralleled.

unless i am able to encourage community finacial contribution, then i will be paying for everything. my funds for this project will not be available until july next year at which time i will be visiting family in madiluong and hope to see you in person.

i apologize for my spelling. i am typing this email with one finger on my cell with spell check off.

regards, owen reese
