RE: What a respond on JB forum ?
Interesting.

I Know what a Parser is but never heard of THAT type of parser.... That being said, I too found the Admin's response, a bit weird. I understood Admin's point, of wanting to keep JB 'simple', but I think a little more thought and tact (ok... a lot more... lol) could have made things a little 'smoother'. The response of the question originator is also understood, but perhaps a PM to the Admin, may have been a wiser choice. Yes, Admin's response was 'public', but questioning an Admin's ability or inability to handle problems, is best handled privately. (imho)

It's almost 7:30am, here in Oz, and my caffeine system has too much blood in it... lol... Time to correct the imbalance...

Have a great day (or night - depends on which side of the planet you live on... lol)

J

May your journey be free of incident.

Live long and prosper.

Hi Aurel,
I hope I have provided you with a more productive point/link at JB for your inquiry.
I confess I was thrown a bit by your terminology but I think you are looking for a BASIC EVAL function which I have worked out in Just Basic code. (Actually I worked it out 4 different ways but last reply in link contains best version.)

Hi Aurel,

Are you saying that precedence climbing parsing is not like BASIC EVAL function?

Because I say the results you get are same, though the way it goes about getting those results may not have been as you expected.

As far as attending the Just Basic forum goes, I like helping people get started with Basic. Sharing the fun I have with BASIC coding is multiplied, "leveraged" as business people like to say. I learn allot doing this and from the other teachers that are there. Even Rod can be quite helpful if you give him some code example you are attempting and describe what exactly you are trying to do with it.

BTW, whatever happened to BASIC's EVAL function? I swear I remember it from either the QuickBasic version I had paid for (and thus could compile a stand alone exe) or it came with VB for MS DOS. Searching for that is how I stumbled on this guy from Walterware (not our Walter I am pretty sure because this guy is in NJ) selling it for $50 as shareware. (Really shareware costs money???)

This was back in early 90's, it was one powerful routine. I am left wondering at the mystery why of the BASICs that I have worked with (SmallBASIC, JB, FB, QB) that claim to carry on the QB tradition one way or another, NONE have an EVAL function.

RE: What a respond on JB forum ?
Aha! I find myself in good company in my ideas about PCP:
http://www.qb64.net/forum/index.php?topic=14364.0

Great minds work alike! He started out wanting to make his calculator do more things, adding more and more functions just like me with JB.

But for me at JB, I was inspired by graphing calculators and wanted to graph functions which means having to evaluate expressions with a range of values.

More and more, it becomes just like regular BASIC programming, until at some point you say, "Hey, just use BASIC!" ;-))
It is so much easier than trying to do everything with a subroutine, though very good practice as an exercise I suspect.

Hi Mark i see that you look into
qb64 forum and my new topic....
as i said ..i am not sure or better i don't know exactly
what would be - precedence climbing parser...
mean i understand in theory and some from examples but all
are written in non BASIC languages
some claim that must use stack ,some not ,some require list,OOP
and some other mumbo-jumbo
BUT
original wikipedia article says that can be done without all that craps
using two loops Rolleyes
so that is why I am little bit confused  oR to much confused.

Heh
EVAL function have sanse in case
you build math evaluator ,interpreter or similar math program
but in general there is not much languages with such a function
